GlaxoSmithKline to Recognize Local Health Care Organizations, says Cox
8/2/2007
Rep. Jim Cox (R-Berks) announced today that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) will be accepting applications for an awards program to recognize up to 10 nonprofit community health care organizations for their efforts to provide affordable and reliable health care services to underserved and at-risk populations in the area.

The IMPACT Awards program is designed to promote innovation, management, partnership, achievement, community focus, and targeting needs to local communities.

IMPACT awardees will receive monetary awards of $40,000 each. The funds are unrestricted, meaning they may be used at the discretion of awardees in the medical, dental and/or visual care fields.

“This awards program not only recognizes area health care organizations for making a positive impact on the community, it rewards them for their efforts,” Cox said. “I applaud GlaxoSmithKline for implementing this program that promotes affordable, reliable health care for those who may not be able to afford it.”

To qualify, applicants must provide access to community healthcare services in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Montgomery or Philadelphia counties. They must also have a total annual operating budget of less than $2.5 million and have been in existence as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization for at least five years. Applicants will be evaluated for the success and achievements of their overall body of work, not specific endeavors.

A review panel of representatives designated by GSK alongside local and national health care experts will select the 10 award recipients. They will consider the applicant’s success in providing healthcare services, commitment to serving people in need, creative partnerships and policy development, and a solid record of achievement, management and leadership.
