Cox Appointed to Legislative Committees

Legislator to have voice in employment, economic growth proposals

Freshman legislator Rep. Jim Cox (R-Berks) has been named to four House committees: Aging and Older Adult Services, Agricultural and Rural Affairs, Labor Relations and Urban Affairs.

“I’m excited to have my committee assignments and am eager to start working toward building a better Pennsylvania,” Cox said.  “The committee process is the crux of reviewing proposed bills.”

The recently-elected legislator was particularly pleased with his appointment to the Labor Relations Committee. “This committee is centered on improving the lives of our hard-working men and women,” Cox said. “One of my main priorities is to create a more successful job environment in Western Berks County and throughout Pennsylvania. This committee post gives me a greater voice in decisions that affect most Pennsylvanians.” Recognizing his commitment to Pennsylvania’s work force, Cox was also selected as secretary of this committee.

The Aging and Older Adult Committee is an integral part in improving the services and livelihood of Pennsylvania’s age 60-plus population. “From reducing and eliminating taxes, to better programs and services, my work in this committee will positively impact the lives of our seniors,” Cox said.

The Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee is charged with reviewing legislation dealing with all aspects of the agricultural and rural areas of the Commonwealth, specifically the activities of the Department of Agriculture.

Finally, the Urban Affairs Committee considers legislation that is related to housing, building codes and land use planning and zoning.

Cox is asking constituents with opinions on any topics covered in these committees to contact his district office at 610-670-0139 or via e-mail at
