Committee Approves Legislation to Reauthorize Assistance to Volunteer Fire and EMS Organizations
The House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee this week advanced legislation to reauthorize the Volunteer Fire Company, Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program (VFCVASGP) through June 30, 2016. House Bill 955 would extend the grant program, which is set to expire on June 30, 2012, for four more years.

The committee amended the bill to increase total program funding from $25 million to $40 million and to include municipal fire organizations. Funding for the program is distributed from the State Gaming Fund.

The application period for the current year is open through Nov. 4. For more information on the program or to apply, visit
